Little Free Pantry

Our Little Free Pantry is a community offering of love and nourishment to all of our neighbors. As we often say in worship, those who are in need are welcome to take and those who are in abundance are welcome to give. Our prayerful purpose for this communal ministry of divine sharing & receiving is to offer items for people who hunger and thirst for food and refreshment, whether needs be physical or spiritual.  The Free Food Pantry was funded and built by the members and friends of Decatur Makers & First Christian Church of Decatur.

To best serve our community-please consider these guidelines when donating to our free pantry:

  • Hand-held (doesn’t require plates, vessels or utensils)
  • Easy-to-open (doesn’t require a can opener)
  • Ready-to-eat (doesn’t require cooking or assembling in any way)
  • Individual units and/or minimal quantity (not entire boxes)
  • Shelf-stable (doesn’t require refrigeration and is not expired)

Suggestions:  single servings of canned fruits, meats, soups; fresh fruits; cans of tuna, vienna sausages, sardines; individual units of granola, cereal,  protein bars, crackers, etc; single serving sized units of water, sports drinks,  chips, snacks, etc.

Thank you for your kindness!!

Please note: We do have a place for ANYTHING that you are willing to donate (we work hand-in-hand with Decatur Emergency Assistance Ministry (DEAM).  Please bring any non-conforming items to the church office (or Chalice Thrift) so that your donation will help those in need. We will help target the best fit to get your donations to those in need.

Little Free Art Gallery

The Little Free Art Gallery is a community offering of love and creativity to all of our neighbors. The goal of this communal gallery space is art for all people, of all mediums, and all skill levels. The gallery is the brainchild of local artist Megan Schaeffer, joyfully shared with First Christian Church of Decatur.

If you make art, feel free to leave some of your creations for others to enjoy. If you like art, feel free to take pieces that speak to you. If you have spare art supplies, feel free to leave them in the gallery for sharing with the community. All art is valuable and your contributions are welcome.

Little Free Pet Food Pantry

The Little Free Pet Food Pantry was built in 2022 by local Girl Scouts in recognition of the importance of our animal friends. It is often difficult to find or afford pet supplies for our unhoused or unemployed neighbors, and this generous community offering was placed to help alleviate that burden.

Please feel free to donate all kinds of pet food, toys, and other supplies to this pantry, located in the community garden outside Chalice Thrift on Nelson Ferry Road. If you have donations of human food, please direct them to the little free pantry in front of the church on Ponce de Leon Avenue instead.
